Tour of 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware
After breaking ground in August of 2018, the 76ers Fieldhouse officially opened its doors in January of 2019. The facility is 161,000 square feet and 5 stories high, located near Wilmington’s riverfront, and visible from I-95 and I-495. Within the facility there are three full-size NBA regulated basketball courts, an indoor turf field measuring 100 yds x 70 yds and an outdoor turf field at 120 by 75 yards. Home of the NBA G League team the Delaware Blue Coats, the three basketball courts can convert into one large arena, which is used for their home games and other big events. The facility also houses exceptional trainers through Titus Sports Academy and therapy through Nemours Sports Medicine.
In this one-of-a-kind training facility, beginners can explore and develop a love for sports, and elite players can find the tools to take their game to the next level. This training complex combines state-of-the-art technology and facilities with experienced coaches, providing adults and children alike the opportunity to participate in top-tier programming.
Since its opening just a few months ago, the fieldhouse has already hosted some of the top youth and professional sporting events in the country, as well as non-sporting events including concerts, graduations, corporate away days, and more. The capacity for basketball games is 2,500, but for concerts, the number jumps to 3,000. That's because in addition to the bleachers and a VIP mezzanine, the actual basketball court will open as a standing-room only area for music fans. The new complex features amenities that include free public WiFi, pop-up food options, and a small kid zone. There is also a VIP balcony overlooking the brand-new court that will be available to courtside ticket holders.
What makes this building especially unique is the walls in the main arena. They are made of transparent polycarbonate, which makes the building glow white at night when the lights are on, making it visible from I-95 and even airplanes overhead. If you see this spectacle the next time you drive through Wilmington, be sure to stop over and see what it’s all about. We promise it will not disappoint!
At Playeasy, our mission it to make sports more accessible, starting with the place you play. We are passionate about the positive impact sports can have on individuals and communities, which is why the 76ers Fieldhouse exceeded all of my expectations. What stood out the most about this complex was not only how beautiful it is, but all they are doing to make an impact on the city of Wilmington.
The 76ers Fieldhouse is quickly becoming the community epicenter, hosting youth programming, adult leagues, tournaments, clinics, play-days and other social events. In addition to offering programs for underserved youth, this complex has also added to the growing economy in Wilmington. With it being the largest venue in the city, the 76ers Fieldhouse has created more jobs and has been able to offer more employment opportunities to the local residents of Wilmington.
Both BPG|SPORTS, the management organization of the fieldhouse, and BPGS Construction, the construction management organization of the project, have a vision that this state-of-the-art facility will serve and help develop youth through dynamic sports programming, and provide a family-centered entertainment environment through the NBA G League Blue Coats games.
The goal is to be able to offer a place where kids can go to learn, grow, and take advantage of the opportunities the Fieldhouse offers in a fun and safe environment. Mentors are available, as well, to offer a helping hand, to coach, to listen, and to motivate when needed. It’s truly special for the children in the community to have a place like this to spend their time, meet new friends, and participate in sports. The passion the staff shares on making an impact is evident, and I can't wait to see all of the good that comes from their work!
