Franklin Recreation Department Embracing Technology

The town of Franklin in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, is known primarily for the Franklin Public Library – the first public library in the United States of America.  The town is steeped in history and tradition, home of Dean College and other excellent educational institutions, and it boasts some of the best parks and recreation facilities in the state of Massachusetts.

Voted a Top 10 Community to raise a family in the United States, Franklin offers its residents beautiful landscapes, excellent education, and impressive infrastructure.  Perhaps underrated in the community, though, are the countless recreational spaces that the town itself offers to its residents. Franklin is full of impressive nature trails, state-of-the-art playgrounds, and clean, safe picnic areas, not to mention several impressive indoor and outdoor athletic spaces.  Many of these spaces make up the Franklin Recreation Department, which is an excellent program doing great things for the Franklin community.

The Franklin Recreation Department is a service-based department, working interactively with local sports associations, school departments, individual Franklin residents, private groups, church and civic groups, as well as other town departments.  In the course of a given year, over 8,000 people are affected by Franklin Recreation operations, and their clientele continues to increase on an annual basis.  The Recreation Department is committed to providing quality recreational programs and facilities to the residents of Franklin.  By providing consistency, dependability and obligation to the town’s residents and the programs in which they partake, the Franklin Recreation Department strives to elevate the quality of life for the community it serves.

Ryan Jette, the head of the Recreation Department, has credited hard work and innovation for the success of the department to date.  Like most current Parks and Recreation Departments, in the past, the Franklin Recreation Department has rented all of its facilities through paper documentation. Individuals were asked to come into the department and pick up a rental application, fill it out, mail it in, and be notified of their rental once approved.  With a changing climate and an increased global emphasis on technology and multi-tasking, though, Franklin is committed to streamlining the rental process. Individuals’ busy schedules prevented them from partaking in this process, and many facilities within the Franklin Parks and Recreation repertoire were going unrented, unused, and underappreciated.  Playeasy gives Franklin Parks and Recreation a new-found way to work with the residents of the town and beyond – concurrently placing an emphasis on the beautiful facilities and the importance of sport for those it reaches.

Jette believes that Playeasy will help market the impressive athletic spaces that make up the town of Franklin, while simultaneously streamlining the booking process on both ends.  As both technology and athletic facilities continue to grow and change, Playeasy becomes a vehicle through which Franklin Recreation Department can stay up-to-date and relevant to a wide audience, thereby making sport and recreation more accessible to the residents of Franklin.

The Franklin Recreation Department currently has 8 facilities listed on Playeasy.com, and is excited about the connections and opportunities they will gain through this platform.  Locations such as Beaver Pond Turf, Dacey Community Field, and Meadowlark Lane Complex will all serve the community in unique ways, and Playeasy will make each of the facilities in Franklin more readily available and easy to access than ever before.
