“Dana Barros is one of the best designed facilities in the United States. This state-of-the-art facility has amazing technology, first class sight lines, and best in class equipment. Working together with Pete Bosader and his staff is a true delight.”
When I first entered Dana Barros Basketball Complex a few weeks back, I couldn't help but smile. As a basketball junkie, I've always appreciated nice basketball courts. The newest facility on Zero Gravity Basketball's Top 10 Facility List, certainly lived up to the hype and expectations in every way.
Having opened their doors in January of 2018, it's clear they have built something special in Stoughton, MA. The complex houses 5 courts built with some of the best hardwood courts in the industry, and the floor still looks brand new. It is spacious and bright, with large windows facing Washington Street. Some of the additional features include individual court cameras to review practices and games, individual court speaking systems, team rooms, numerous TV's and top of the line concessions.
Everything about the facility was top notch - the building, the courts, the people, the amenities and the coaching. What also made this place special was how open this top of the line facility was for kids of all ages. At 3pm, kids started to arrive individually and in groups, ready to play during their open court hours after school.
Many know of Dana Barros, a 15 year NBA veteran and Boston College standout. I was on the sidelines in Conte Forum (BC), color commentating the men's basketball game two seasons ago, when Dana's jersey was retired from Boston College. It was clear to see his passion and appreciation for the game, and how much it has done for his life.
His passion to grow the game turned into a reality with the opening of this complex. Dana has been involved in coaching youth basketball for awhile now, but he always envisioned a premier facility to go along with his teams. He has put his words into action, and has continued to grow the programming offered to kids of all ages at this facility. It is not uncommon to see Dana giving tips to kids during games, or helping with shooting while on the courts.
The Dana Barros Basketball Complex offers programs such as Fundamentals Academy, Skills Academy, Little Dribblers. Kids can purchase a membership, where you can go and use the gym from 3-4:30pm. Through all of the programs, they emphasize developing great habits that you will carry throughout life. These include handling mistakes with composure, hard work, and leading with poise and assurance.
